New services at RJ cargo terminal

Royal Jordanian Cargo held an iftar banquet for a number of officials, marking the opening of the new warehouse facilities.

RJ President/CEO Samer Majali, Vice President/Cargo Ingo Roessler, Commander of Special Security & Protection Unit Ali Jaradat, Ahmad Al-Nsour from Forwarders Association Owners Syndicate, Ibrahim Naouri from the Jordanian Logistics Association, Chief Operations Officer/Airport International Group Francois Berisot and several cargo agents were introduced, on the occasion, to the improvements, which end the second phase of upgrading that RJ cargo started three years ago.

Director Cargo Logistics and Terminals Zaid Lambaz said that the upgrading covers several areas of the air freight industry; he added that the airline built a new racking system that raised the storage capacity from 1,900 European pallets to 7,400, adding sufficient storage space at Queen Alia International Airport for the coming 15 years.

Five new Crown forklifts also joined the operations to service the new racking system. The forklifts are the most advanced pieces of equipment in the industry, allowing faster storage and retrieval of freight through very narrow aisles.

Lambaz also said that electronic access doors from the airside and landside areas were installed to speed up the opening and closure of the doors, to restrict unauthorized movement of individuals and access of birds, especially pigeons, to and from the warehouse.

Moreover, an access door has been opened between the warehouse and the cool storage facility to allow for a speedier movement of perishables from the acceptance to the cool facility, to keep the local fresh produce in the required cool chain from the farm to the consumers in Europe.

Lambaz also said that RJ cargo upgraded the security camera system to cover all areas of the warehouse, the offices and the surrounding areas. The 230 cameras, capable to record 24 hours 7 days a week for up to three months, can be connected to the Internet to allow the RJ management to monitor the activities in the warehouse from any point in the world. This security system is an international requirement in the air cargo industry.

Lambaz mentioned that the new IT system, Cargospot, is in its last phases of being launched. Cargospot is one of the most advanced cargo system in the world that will allow RJ and Jordan to step in the new e-freight within one year from now, he added.

Some minor changes taking place at the warehouse include changing the lighting system to a better one, and improving the vehicles and machines used in the cargo terminal.

Lambaz said that the 17,000 m2 cargo facility at QAIA was opened in 1983. It was the most advanced cargo warehouse in the Middle East, and RJ is keen on maintaining it as such for years to come. Cargo is a very essential revenue generator and the facility is a very good part of that operation.
